Vansittart Avenue 'Gothic Revival' - Woodstock Ontario

A stunning Gothic Revival home on one of my favourite Ontario streets. (added Jan 25 2010) Oops! This one had me fooled, I think rather it would be considered Romanesque Revival. I am obviously learning as I go!

Vansittart Avenue - Woodstock Ontario

Probably the finest example of an 'Italian Villa' in Southwestern Ontario, with a multitude of doubled corbels (brackets), two Juliet balconies, and a magnificent tower. Note the extremely shallow pitch of the roof, great in England, but less so in Ontario.

Vansittart Avenue 'Italianate' - Woodstock Ontario

A stunning Italianate house, with beautiful doubled brackets. Interestingly, a wraparound porch and bay window have been added, atypical of the traditional style, though whoever did them matched the roof pitch, so they don't look out of place at all.

'Queen Anne' on Vansittart Avenue - Woodstock Ontario

And here is another Queen Anne, in all her regal splendour! Not often seen are the half hipped gable ends with dormers, and the gothic revival tower roof blends perfectly!

'Queen Anne' on Vansittart Avenue - Woodstock Ontario

A wonderful red brick home in the Queen Anne Style. The brickwork on the chimney and tower is fabulous! The slate shingles on the tower roof are probably original, about 125 years old now.
