Perhaps the other rule is if you need more space, buy a larger house. Salt and Pepper brickwork does not match the yellow, I think it's dreadful.

The neighboring house to yesterday's illustrates an often ignored rule of making additions to historic homes: An addition should be complementary, not identical, to the original house.
